On Saturday, the second day of the event, Biff and Fixle, both Aboriginals that had flown in from Germany, as well as Paul from the Originators in Kansas and I started touring the town of Ryde. In the morning, I had already heard a Lambretta with more than one cylinder cruising around the area, so Biff immediately got interested in what that was. Since he built a Lambretta with RD350YPVS engine himself, he wanted to know what these famous British machines would be like. While Biff was hanging out somewhere on the Isle, I got some shots of it. There are several remarkable points about this bike. First, the rear wheel is actually pulled underneath the frame, unlike Biff's construction that needed to extend the rear. Also, the machine is road legal in the UK. I know you Germans out there, you'd be dreaming about something like that. Altogether it looks very clean and the large motorcycle engine has been fitted very seemlessly. On Sunday, a very specific event was to go on: as for any proper Mod do, most of the scooterists will get together for a ride out. That does get pretty tricky, however, if several thousand riders actual set out to do so. This is a picture of one short bit of the ride. Actually, the line of scooters must have been more than 10 miles long. I assume that the length of the ride out must have covered the roads from one end of the Isle of Wight to the next without interruption. Just imagine a never ending trail of scooters passing by... Before I go, here a pic of the scooters that got me through the rally: What a magnificent bike! It deserves to win any customshow. The damn thing didn't even make it all the way through the rally, it broke down because of a bad spark plug. Bugger!
